Enjoy a cruise on the Garonne canal with historian and writer, Bertrand Soles, in this film made by TV channel France 3 Nouvelle-Aquitaine, passing ‘generous lands, conducive to agriculture, crisscrossed by an exceptional concentration of rivers and streams, with more than 200km of waterways, the Lot et Garonne is one of the best endowed departments in France.’
We enjoyed seeing our stunning town of Nérac, so beautifully filmed, and also seeing the pruniculteur who demonstrates the plum harvest and the drying of the plums to make the prunes this region is much famed for. We also loved seeing the Latour Marliac nursery, which is just a 45 minute drive from Studio Faire. Joseph Bory Latour Marliac was the first person in the world to succeed in crossing exotic colored water lilies and European white water lilies. These were the lilies that seduced Claude Monet so much that he bought the lilies for his Giverny Garden exclusively from this nursery.
But the highlight for us had to be seeing our good friends at Camont (at 18.30mins). Kate Hill is an American author and professional cook. She welcomes trainees (including some top chefs!) from all over the world and shows them how to cook traditional dishes of this gascony region.
See some images of the local landscape.
We hope this gives you a wee flavour of the region and wets your appetite for a visit!
