Every year Studio Faire offers an award of a FREE 4-week residency at Studio Faire. To date, we have supported post-graduate fine art students and visual artists to come and spend time researching and developing new ideas in France. This year it’s the turn of the writers!

We are particularly excited to be partnering with the American post-genre literary journal and chapbook press, Ghost Proposal, for our 2020 Award.

Every year they run a Chapbook Contest and the winner receives 15 printed copies of their manuscript.

This year they will also win a free 4-week residency at Studio Faire!

Ghost Proposal and Studio Faire in a nutshell

Ghost Proposal publishes essays, poetry and hybrid genre, cross-genre, post-genre works and all that nestles in between.

They seek work that stretches the boundaries of essays and poetry, work that engages with thought process.

For their Annual Chapbook Contest they are seeking cohesive manuscripts that deal in the above approaches.

‘We want to talk about what the work is doing, not what it is.’

Studio Faire is an intimate contemporary art space in South West France, providing residencies for all types of creative practitioner.

Situated in the market town of Nérac, in the stunning Lot-et-Garonne region, on the northern edge of Gascony. Here you will find the ‘real’ traditional France.

Your Scottish hosts have many skills between them. Colin Usher is a Photographer and Digital Media expert and Julia Douglas a Mixed Media Visual Artist and a Web Designer.

Residents live and work in the house, studios and gardens of Studio Faire, a ‘Maison de maître’ built around 1830 and still retaining its period characteristics. Rooms and studios are spacious and mature gardens offer private, shaded space for work and play.

The winner of this award will be offered desk space in a private studio, with a view out to the large garden plus a separate double bedroom.
