A La Mod_CMYK_CroppedAs part of our plans to relocate, we have been immersing, absorbing and burying ourselves in all things French.

Reading Living France Magazine a few months back, there was a competition to win a copy of the book ‘A La Mod, My So-Called Tranquil Life In Rural France.’ by UK comedian (and MOD) Ian Moore.

Intrigued, I grabbed the audiobook version from Audible and got listening…

Pleasantly surprised at this find, I spent a fair few hours (8 hours and 5 mins to be precise) driving across Scotland visiting clients over the Autumn of 2014 often caught sniggering by other drivers whilst stopped at traffic lights.

I loved this insight to Ian’s family life in relation to their move, their children, animals and especially Ian’s often grumpy slant on life. He’s a very funny man.

For us, this book has become yet another addition to our toolbox for our plans for the French adventure.

Once there, I will be seeking out Mr Ian Moore and  buying the lad a drink or two to both congratulate and say merci.

Comedian, mod and professional grump Ian Moore has had enough. Tired of being unable to park anywhere near his cramped house in a noisy town he doesn’t like, he hatches a plan to move his wife and young son to a remote corner of the Loire Valley in search of serenity and space. Several years later, Ian finds himself up to his neck in bilingual offspring, feral cats, promiscuous horses, dysfunctional spaniels and needy hens; he’s wrestling with electric fences, a foreign language, a mountain of animal waste and a wife who collects livestock like there’s a biblical flood on the horizon, all while trying not to dirty his loafers. But despite the ups, downs and increasing demands of Ian’s showbiz career, the Moore family persevere in true Brit style to create a unique, colourful and ultimately rewarding life in their new home – à la campagne and à la mod!
