I’ll Rob Your Heart is a short film (4:10 min) devised, created and produced by Amy Johnson, during an artist residency at Studio Faire. Her two week residency was spent working on the costume and exploring the area, whilst researching how the myths and folklores surrounding magpies associate them with ill fortune. “They are harbingers of bad luck and throughout Christianity are believed to embody the devil. Their deviant behavior place them in a category with villains.”
The film was created in the gardens and park at Studio Faire and on the river Baïse in Nérac, with the kind donation of time and skill from Colin Usher, both as drone camera man and film editor.
“The most common mislabeled trait is their interest in shiny things. Magpies are tricksters who will stop at nothing to get the rhinestone necklace or a gold coin. What is their interest in shiny things? What is our interest in shiny things? What happens when we desire something; it taunts us like a mirage on the desert horizon. Then it gets pulled away, gone into thin air. The lure and seduction becomes a dream, a script that we fall in love with. In this world of shiny things it is hard to see between what is real and what is a dream. ‘I’ll Rob Your Heart’ is a reconciliation with heartbreak, for all that we long for and all that we do not get.”
